The Pastor

The pastor of Saint Luke is called by God through the church, and by the church through God. All ELCA pastors are required to meet certain standards, such as full time gospel ministry (Lutheran pastors do not have second jobs.) Though the pastor has a specific role in Word and Sacrament ministry, Lutherans affirm the priesthood of all believers, so every member shares in the mission of the church and all are called as ministers of the gospel. Saint Luke’s pastor is The Reverend Henry Rehder, a second career Lutheran pastor and graduate of The University of North Carolina-Wilmington with a Master of Divinity degree from The Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, SC. He has completed clinical pastoral education in a hospital setting, served a one year internship at Alamance Lutheran Church, Alamance NC and extended field education here at Saint Luke under Pr. Matthew Ernst. Pr. Rehder served parish ministry previously in Summerfield, NC. He and his wife Diane live in Shallotte, NC.

 The Church Staff

The church is administrated by a staff of three. The office is open daily from 9:00AM to 1:00PM, although Pr. Rehder is usually in the office in the afternoons as well. The Parish Administrator is Donna L. Setzer, and the Director of Church Music is Janette Schroeder.
